A Cuyahoga County judge has temporarily cleared Cleveland Glenville High School to return to the 2026 OHSAA football playoffs, less than 24 hours after the school was removed over student eligibility concerns.
Judge Andrew Santoli granted a temporary restraining order Friday afternoon, allowing Glenville's Division III, Region 9 first-round matchup against Hunting Valley University School to proceed.
The ruling comes after the Ohio High School Athletic Association announced Thursday that Glenville was being removed from the postseason amid an investigation into students attending Ginn Academy who may have been participating in athletics at the wrong Cleveland Metropolitan School District school.
Cleveland Metropolitan School District officials challenged the decision, saying additional residency documentation had been provided and that the punishment was premature.
Glenville, which won state championships in 2022, 2023 and 2025, was also removed from the football playoffs in 2018 over similar violations.
The court order requires the first-round game to be completed by Sunday night, although the exact kickoff time has not been confirmed.
The temporary ruling does not end the OHSAA investigation or prevent additional penalties.
