Explosion at North Toledo chemical terminal prompts emergency response
An explosion at a chemical terminal in North Toledo prompted evacuations and a shelter-in-place order Tuesday night.
People within one mile of the MC Tank Terminal were evacuated, while residents within a three-mile radius were instructed to remain inside.
Emergency crews used a drone to assess conditions at the facility while officials worked to determine the potential risk.
Toledo-Lucas County Health Commissioner Karim Baroudi said the chemical released into the air is considered a carcinogen and can also cause irritation.
Residents were advised to avoid contact while emergency crews and city officials continued monitoring the situation.
