Fort Recovery school board authorizes bids for athletic park improvements

FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery Local Schools will begin seeking bids for proposed improvements at Barrenbrugge Athletic Park.

Superintendent Tony Stahl said the project would include a new building containing an officials’ locker room and storage space. Plans also call for a permanent ticket office and a dedicated queue area intended to improve traffic flow and safety in the parking lot.

The bid notice is expected to be posted in late October, with a tentative deadline of November 18.

District officials expect the work to be completed before the fall of 2027 with minimal disruption to the spring track season.

The board also heard an update from Fort Recovery Museum representatives about Beyond the Battlefield: Native Days, taking place October 22 through October 24.

Fourth-grade students from several area schools will participate in cultural stations led by citizens of the Wyandotte Nation, Eastern Shawnee Tribe and Miami Tribe of Oklahoma. Activities will be held at Fort Recovery Elementary and Middle School.

Stahl thanked the museum for its partnership and said the district is excited to provide the educational opportunity to students and the community.

Board members also received an update on the eighth-grade trip to Washington, D.C., scheduled for October 26 through October 30, and reviewed recently completed parent-teacher conferences.

In personnel matters, the board approved volunteer coaches and advisers for the bowling and drama programs.

The board also completed the first reading of several policy revisions. Topics include the use of electric bicycles and similar devices on school property, updates to the district’s recording policy involving new technology and changes related to the Student-Athlete Mobility Act.

The next Fort Recovery Board of Education meeting is scheduled for November 16 at 6:30 p.m. in the high school community room.
