ODOT inspects snowplows ahead of winter weather

The Ohio Department of Transportation is preparing its equipment and employees for the upcoming winter driving season.

ODOT crews are inspecting snowplows and other equipment to make sure they are ready when the first snow and ice arrive.

The department is also encouraging motorists to prepare their vehicles for colder weather. Recommended steps include checking tires, batteries, lights, windshield wipers and fluid levels.

Drivers should also consider keeping an emergency kit containing blankets, water, food, a flashlight, phone charger and other supplies inside their vehicles.

During winter storms, motorists are reminded to reduce their speed, leave additional stopping distance and give snowplows plenty of room to operate.
