Fort Recovery Museum Planning ‘Beyond the Battlefield:
Native Days’ Event on Oct. 24
FORT RECOVERY – Staff members at Fort Recovery Museum and Monument have announced the third annual “Beyond the Battlefield: Native Days” event on Saturday, Oct. 24, at two community locations.
“‘Beyond the Battlefield: Native Days’ is a fantastic opportunity to learn about Indigenous history in Ohio before we became a state and the modern cultures of federally recognized American Indian Tribes whose ancestors orchestrated St. Clair’s Defeat in 1791,” said Neil Thompson, Marketing Department Manager for the Ohio History Connection. “The history of the frontier shaped the future of Ohio, and Native American heritage is still a large part of the educational experience at sites like Fort Recovery Museum and Monument.”
All activities are FREE and will be held from 10 a.m. –4 p.m. on Oct. 24 at the following sites:
Fort Recovery Elementary/Middle School, 865 Sharpsburg Road
Fort Recovery Museum, 1 Fort Site St.
In addition to the public events on Oct. 24, news media outlets also are invited to attend educational programming for fourth-graders from four local schools (Coldwater, Fort Recovery, Marion Local and St. Henry) on Thursday, Oct. 22, and Friday, Oct. 23. These coverage opportunities are for media only; please RSVP to Neil Thompson at nthompson@ohiohistory.org if you want to attend and you will receive additional details.
“Beyond the Battlefield: Native Days” is partially funded by the Ohio History Fund, an Ohio History Connection grant program, and is offered to the community and local schools in collaboration with the Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma, the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma and Wyandotte Nation.
