Ohio Unemployment Claims Increase During Latest Reporting Week

Both initial and continued unemployment claims increased in Ohio during the week ending September 19.

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services reported that Ohioans filed 4,433 initial unemployment claims from September 13 through September 19. That was an increase of 414 from the previous week.

Approximately 797 initial claims were flagged for additional identity verification as the state works to prevent fraudulent filings.

Ohioans also filed 34,716 continued unemployment claims, an increase of 732 from the previous week. The state received a combined 39,149 initial and continued claims during the reporting period.

Ohio’s unemployment rate was 3.3% in August, below the national rate of 4.1%. Ohio’s labor force participation rate was 61.3%, compared with the national rate of 61.6%.
