Ohio voters have until October 5 to register to vote

Today is National Voter Registration Day and Ohioans have less than a month to make sure they are able to vote in the upcoming midterm election.

People who are planning to vote for the first time or in a long time can register by going to Vote411.org but they must do so before Oct. 5.

Elisabeth Warner, communications director for the League of Women Voters of Ohio, said even consistent voters should double-check their information on record and make sure it is up to date, especially if they have moved or changed their name, adding this election year is an unusually active one.

"We have a big Senate race. We have a big governor's race. We have, like everybody, every single U.S. congressional seat is up but we also have all these statewide executive offices that are up," Warner outlined.

Ohioans will elect two Ohio Supreme Court justices along with important leaders at the county and municipal levels. The polls open for in-person voting on Nov. 3 from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Warner stressed now is the time to remind friends and family about checking their registration status.

"This is a great day to just put in a group chat, 'Hey, are you registered to vote? Go to Vote 411 to check. Make a plan to vote this year. It's a big deal,'" Warner emphasized.

Nearly 8 million people in Ohio are already registered and ready to go, according to the latest data from the Ohio Secretary of State’s office.
