Former Celina Law Director and Mercer County Clerk of Courts Kevin McKirnan Dies at 74

Former longtime Celina Law Director and Mercer County Clerk of Courts Kevin M. McKirnan has died at the age of 74.

McKirnan, formerly of Celina and most recently of North Manchester, Indiana, passed away September 5 at Peabody Retirement Community, surrounded by his family.

Born September 17, 1951, in Celina, McKirnan was the son of the late Daniel and Mary Jo Sommers McKirnan. He graduated from Immaculate Conception Catholic High School in 1969 before earning a bachelor’s degree in political science from Purdue University in 1973. He received his law degree from Ohio Northern University in 1976.

McKirnan devoted much of his career to public service in Celina and Mercer County. He served as Celina Law Director from 1977 through 2012, representing the city for more than three decades. Following his time as law director, he served one term as Mercer County Clerk of Courts.

He was a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and had a deep interest in history. McKirnan participated in living-history programs and historical reenactments with several organizations, including the Quiateon Brigade, 9th Virginia Regiment and 1st American Regiment.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Bolinger-McKirnan; sisters Maureen Hausfeld and Jane Riesen; and numerous extended family members. He was preceded in death by his brother, Frank McKirnan.

A funeral liturgy will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 17, at the funeral home, with visitation from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.

Interment will follow at St. Marys Catholic Cemetery in Celina.
