Michael Rentfrow Sentenced to Community Control in Mercer County Drug Case

CELINA — A Kentucky man was sentenced Wednesday morning in Mercer County Common Pleas Court after pleading guilty to a felony drug charge.

Michael K. Rentfrow, 29, of Bowling Green, Kentucky, was sentenced to three years of community control. As part of the sentence, Rentfrow must complete six months at the WORTH Center. The court also reserved 180 days in the Mercer County Jail that could be imposed if he violates community control.

Rentfrow pleaded guilty July 10 to aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony. A fourth-degree misdemeanor charge of illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia was dismissed as part of the negotiated plea agreement.

According to a Celina Police Department affidavit, the case began when an officer stopped a vehicle after seeing it cross the center line while turning from North Main Street onto Touvelle Street.

A Mercer County Sheriff’s Office K-9 alerted to the odor of illegal narcotics during the stop. Officers reported finding a grinder containing suspected methamphetamine residue inside a box in the vehicle.

The affidavit states Rentfrow told police the box contained his “junk drawer items.” The substance recovered from the grinder later tested positive for methamphetamine.

Rentfrow will remain under court supervision throughout the three-year community-control period.
