YWCA of Van Wert County Capital Campaign Reaches Major Funding Milestones

The YWCA of Van Wert County says its capital campaign is continuing to gain momentum as the organization works toward breaking ground on a new facility next spring.

The project has now secured millions of dollars through federal, state, foundation and private investments, while architects continue finalizing building plans and preparations begin for construction bidding.

The new facility is designed to expand youth programming, survivor services, community partnerships and health resources while continuing the YWCA’s more than 110-year presence in Van Wert County.

Among the most recent funding milestones is $1 million approved through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, along with $250,000 through the State of Ohio Capital Budget.

The YWCA has also submitted a $1.3 million Affordable Housing Program grant application through the Federal Home Loan Bank and has received approval for up to $2.5 million in New Market Tax Credits.

More than $3.2 million in private donor pledges have also been secured to date.

Another portion of the project involves the YWCA’s current building. Grant funding has been approved and an asbestos abatement project has been awarded to prepare the historic facility for future ownership and redevelopment.

Construction bidding for the new facility is expected to begin this fall, with groundbreaking planned for the spring of 2027.

YWCA officials say the expanded facility will provide additional space for youth programs, including after-school opportunities, while strengthening services for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking.

The facility is also expected to provide space for expanded partnerships with other community organizations and health resources.

YWCA of Van Wert County President and CEO Kimberly Laudick said the organization is grateful for the individuals, businesses, foundations and organizations that have supported the campaign, but said additional community support is still needed before the campaign is complete.
