MERCER COUNTY WOMAN INDICTED IN $138,692 BAD CHECK CASE

A Mercer County woman has been indicted on a fourth-degree felony charge of passing bad checks involving a check for more than $138,000.

According to an indictment filed in Mercer County Common Pleas Court, Ashley L. Everman-Mescher is accused of issuing or transferring a check to a victim with the purpose of defrauding the victim.

The alleged offense occurred on or about June 3, 2026, in Mercer County.

The indictment alleges Everman-Mescher issued or transferred check number 251, dated June 3rd, 2026, in the amount of $138,692.03, payable to the victim.

According to the indictment, Everman-Mescher knew the check would be dishonored or knew that a person had ordered or would order a stop payment on the check.

The indictment states the amount of the check falls within the range of $7,500 or more but less than $150,000, making the alleged offense a fourth-degree felony under Ohio Revised Code 2913.11(B) and 2913.11(E).

The indictment was filed August 20th in Mercer County Common Pleas Court.

Court records show Everman-Mescher was personally served with the indictment on August 23rd. She appeared in court September 3rd before Mercer County Common Pleas Judge Matthew K. Fox.

Everman-Mescher was released on her own recognizance with conditions. She is represented by attorney Jeremy M. Tomb of Waite, Tomb & Eberly LLP in Troy.

An attorney conference is scheduled for October 7th at 8:30 a.m. in Mercer County Common Pleas Court.

The case remains open. The allegations contained in an indictment are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
