Lake Improvement Association to Hold Kids Fishing Derby and All Abilities Playground Ribbon Cutting

The Lake Improvement Association will host two community events on Wednesday, September 16 at Grand Lake St. Marys, including its annual Kids Fishing Derby and a ribbon cutting for the new All Abilities Playground.

The ribbon cutting will take place at 11 a.m. at the First Shelter House on East Bank Road.

The ceremony will coincide with the LIA’s annual Kids Fishing Derby for developmentally disabled children.

The public is invited to attend the ribbon cutting, and the LIA is also looking for volunteers to help throughout the day.

Volunteers are needed to make cookies and other baked goods, with organizers asking that no peanuts or tree nuts be used. Volunteers can also help serve food and assist children with baiting hooks and removing fish.

Setup will begin at 8:30 a.m., with buses and children expected to begin arriving around 10 a.m. Fishing is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by the playground ribbon cutting at 11.

The event is expected to continue until approximately 2:30 p.m.

The LIA is also thanking the many local organizations, businesses and individuals who contributed to the new All Abilities Playground, including the Auglaize County Board of Developmental Disabilities, several American Legion and veterans organizations, local banks, civic groups, businesses and individual donors.
