Greenville Man Held on Felony Charge Following Darke County Injury Crash

A two vehicle crash Saturday morning in Darke County sent a Greenville woman to Miami Valley Hospital and resulted in a felony charge against another driver.

According to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office, deputies along with Greenville Township Fire and Rescue, Ansonia Rescue, Greenville City Fire and CareFlight responded to the intersection of State Route 118 and Hillgrove Woodington Road at approximately 11:45 a.m. on August 29.

A preliminary investigation found that a black Chevrolet Silverado driven by Austin Ditty, 28, of Greenville, was traveling southbound on State Route 118 behind two other vehicles.

Deputies say Ditty attempted to pass the vehicles on the left as they approached Hillgrove Woodington Road. His truck collided with a maroon Nissan Murano driven by Barbara Baker, 55, of Greenville. Baker had slowed and was making a left turn onto Hillgrove Woodington Road.

The Nissan traveled off the left side of the roadway into a cornfield and overturned onto its top. Baker had to be mechanically extricated from the vehicle.

The Chevrolet continued southbound, traveled off the right side of the roadway and then back off the left side before coming to rest in a ditch.

Baker was flown by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Ditty and a front seat passenger in the Chevrolet refused medical treatment.

The Darke County Sheriff’s Office says further investigation determined Ditty is suspected of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. He is being held on a felony aggravated vehicular assault charge.

The crash remains under investigation.
