Celina City Schools is closely monitoring its financial outlook as changes to Ohio’s property tax system affect projected district revenue.

Superintendent Brooke Gessler said Treasurer Michelle Maurer presented an updated financial forecast during this week’s Board of Education meeting.

Gessler said the changes in Ohio’s property tax system have resulted in a substantial loss of projected revenue for Celina City Schools.

At the same time, district expenditures continue to increase while revenue is expected to remain relatively flat.

District officials say those conditions will require careful financial planning moving forward.

Gessler said Celina City Schools has been working to reduce staffing costs through attrition whenever possible rather than making reductions through layoffs.

The district says those efforts are part of a larger strategy to stabilize the budget while continuing to provide educational opportunities and services for students and families.

Officials say they will continue to closely monitor revenue and expenses as they work to protect the district’s long term financial health.
