Ohio Jobless Claims Increase Slightly

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services says unemployment claims increased slightly during the week of June 21st through June 27th.

Ohioans filed 4,345 initial unemployment claims during that period, which was 221 more than the previous week. ODJFS says approximately 908 of those claims have been flagged for more stringent identity verification to help ensure they are not fraudulent.

Continued unemployment claims also increased. Ohioans filed 42,279 continued claims, which was 272 more than the previous week.

The total number of unemployment claims filed in Ohio during the week was 46,624.

Ohio’s unemployment rate in May was 3.7%, compared to the national unemployment rate of 4.3%. Ohio’s labor force participation rate in May was 61.8%, matching the national rate.

ODJFS reminds Ohioans they can file unemployment claims online at unemployment.ohio.gov. Anyone who believes their identity was used to file a fraudulent claim should report it through the website or by calling 833-658-0394.
