Celina School Superintendent Brooke Gessler says work is continuing behind the scenes this summer as Celina City Schools prepares for another school year and a major district milestone.

Gessler says leadership teams across the district have been working through the summer to help ensure a smooth and successful start for students and staff.

At Celina Elementary School, Principal Andy Mikesell and Dean of Students Tracy Dammeyer have been preparing for the year ahead. Gessler also recognized Michelle Duncan, who is finishing her time with the district, and Corey Yarns, who has accepted a new position in another district. That move has allowed Celina to add Pete Lisi as the new Celina Elementary School Associate Principal.

One of the biggest milestones will be the district’s transition into the new high school. Students and staff in grades 7 through 12 are expected to begin the second semester in the new building on Monday, January 25th.

Gessler says the project has been years in the making and the district is looking forward to opening a facility that will serve generations of Celina students while creating new opportunities for learning, collaboration, and student success.

The district’s next newsletter is expected to arrive in mailboxes in mid-July. Gessler says the newsletter will be published twice each year, once in the fall and once in the spring or summer, to help keep families, residents, and community members informed about what is happening across Celina City Schools.

Gessler also thanked the community for its continued support, saying every improvement, opportunity, and investment in the schools is ultimately an investment in students and the future of the community.

The first day of school for Celina students is August 26th.
