Rockford American Legion Post 508 Announces Memorial Day Services And Chicken Dinner Fundraiser

The Rockford American Legion Post 508 will hold its annual Memorial Day services on Monday, May 25th.

Post 508 American Legion and Sons of the American Legion members who would like to help are asked to be at the Legion by 9:15 a.m.

Military Legion services will be conducted at Riverside Cemetery at 10 a.m., honoring all fallen veterans with a rifle salute. The public is invited to attend.

The Memorial Day parade will begin at approximately 11 a.m., once the Parkway Marching Band arrives. The parade will start at the fire station and travel north on Main Street to Hedges Veteran Park for the Memorial Day service.

All veterans are invited to participate in the parade. Golf carts and the Mercer County Veterans Service Van will be available for veterans who would prefer to ride.

Featured speakers for the program will be Eric Pugh, Mercer County Veterans Service Director and Officer, and Evan Kimmel, the 2025 Carey, Bill, and Benny Scholarship recipient. Lead Pastor Ken Meyer of New Horizons Community Church will offer the prayers, and Post 508 SAL member Mike Heiser will serve as master of ceremonies.

All area veterans, including those who would like to wear their military uniform, and all Post 508 members are invited to attend both services.

The Rockford American Legion and Sons will also hold their annual barbecue chicken dinner fundraiser. The dinner is being coordinated by Post 508 American Legion member Adam Car and SAL member Colby Heiser.

Tickets are $10 and are presale only. They are available at the Rockford American Legion, Rockford Eagles, and the Rockford Village Office.

Chicken dinners will be provided by Burtch’s Barn to Table and will be available for pickup behind the Rockford American Legion Hall immediately following the ceremony.
