Minster Board Of Education Reviews Donations, Student Honors, And New Business

The Minster Board of Education met Wednesday evening for its monthly meeting.

During the meeting, the board accepted several donations, including $1,500 from the Minster Journeyman’s Club for the boys and girls bowling programs, $100 from Silent Opportunities for the disability classroom, $200 from the Community Backpack Program for negative lunch accounts, and $100 from an anonymous donor for the football coaches account.

Superintendent Josh Meyer shared an update on the Ohioans to Protect Public Services Coalition, which is working to provide information about the potential impact of eliminating property taxes in Ohio.

Elementary Principal Mandy Albers presented the K through 6 report. She recognized 6th grade student Brigid Brame as the 3rd quarter recipient of the Spirit Stick and also shared the Humble and Kind Award winners for the 3rd quarter. Albers also updated the board on open house attendance, kindergarten screening, and the state testing schedule.

Junior and Senior High School Principal Austin Kaylor congratulated the Class of 2026 Valedictorian Emma Dysert, daughter of Dan and Karla Dysert, and Salutatorian Annie Hemmelgarn, daughter of Kate and Randy Hemmelgarn. Kaylor also shared the CATS of the Month, wished the Symphonic Band good luck at its upcoming State Adjudicated Event, and informed the board that 61 students are scheduled to graduate on Sunday, May 24th.

Maintenance, Facilities, and Transportation Director Andy Roetgerman provided an overview of recent projects around the building and discussed upcoming summer projects.

Treasurer Gina Selby gave her monthly report, which included transfers to cover land acquisition expenses, the real estate tax settlement for the first half of tax year 2025, a revenue and expenditure update, and modified appropriations for the food service fund, recreation fund, and field trips fund. Selby also provided fund summaries and a budget performance update.

As part of the superintendent’s consent agenda, the board approved a memorandum of understanding with Rhodes State College for the College Credit Plus program.

In new business, the board took action on several items, including implementation of an Armed Response Team, approval of the Junior High and High School Wrestling Club for the 2026-2027 school year, and final approval of numerous policy updates.

The board also approved personnel recommendations, including limited one-year contracts beginning in the 2026-2027 school year for Bryan Horn as high school Spanish teacher and Jenna Treon as elementary intervention specialist. Supplemental contracts were also approved for Byron Albers as high school assistant football coach, Kelly Wiss for junior high volleyball, and Phil Trzaska as high school assistant football coach.

The board entered executive session to discuss employment and compensation of a public employee, district security arrangements and emergency response protocols, and the purchase or sale of property. No action was taken after the executive session.

The next Minster Board of Education meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 21st, at 7 p.m. in the Large Group Room.
