New Bremen Council Reviews Finances, Flood Insurance Update

New Bremen Council Reviews Finances, Flood Insurance Update

New Bremen Village Council reviewed village finances, flood insurance status, and other business during its latest meeting.

New Bremen Mayor Bob Parker reported that the village finance committee reviewed March receipts totaling $2,087,608.61, along with April expenses totaling $1,300,017.97.

Parker said Village Administrator Jacob Larger also reported that the village is transferring $1 million in excess cash into the STAR Ohio account, which offers a better interest rate for the village.

Parker also noted that the village garage sales were held over the weekend and went off without incident.

Council also received an update from Brent Richter regarding the village’s application for the National Flood Insurance Program through FEMA. Parker said the application was submitted in September but has not yet been approved by the federal government.

According to Parker, the process has been slowed by FEMA shutdowns and budget cuts. He said residents are not currently in violation for not having flood insurance because the village is not yet in the system. However, some banks are force placing coverage on properties based on the new floodplains.

In other business, council held the third reading of an ordinance dealing with medical insurance renewal beginning May 1st, 2026. Parker said the renewal will cover the village for the next year.
