Chad Joseph Leray Schoen


There is less joy in our lives with the passing of Chad Joseph “CJ” Leray Schoen, 33, on Saturday, April 11, 2026. He died in Columbus, Ohio, where he had been residing.

Chad was born on November 7, 1992. He was the son of William “Bill” and Suzenne “Suzie” (Kaufman) Schoen, of Montezuma, Ohio. Also surviving is his grandmother, Roseann “Rosie” Schoen of Celina, Ohio along with many heart-broken uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents Alfred S. and Ada Kaufman Jr. as well as paternal grandfather Robert “Bob” Schoen.

Chad attended schools in both Coldwater, Ohio and Celina, Ohio. He was in the graduating class of Celina High School in 2011. He was active in sports playing hockey, baseball, soccer, volleyball, running 5k’s and was on the Coldwater track team for a season.

He loved the outdoors and would ride his bike and go fishing. He enjoyed camping. When he was indoors he enjoyed playing cards, coloring, doing craft projects or taking things apart.

As an adult he worked a variety of jobs including retail stores and disc jockeying.

He was always willing to join in activities with others as well as help or assist anyone that asked him to.

One of his favorite foods was hot dogs.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Coldwater. It is expected to be live-streamed for those further away or unable to attend in person.
Burial will follow at Our Lady of Guadalupe cemetery, Celina, Ohio. There will be no visitation.
