ST. MARYS - The St. Marys City Schools Board of Education held its Wednesday, April 15 meeting at Tri Star Career Compact, where members recognized St. Marys students selected as class leaders and approved a resolution honoring Tri Star for its service to students in the district. Superintendent Bill Ruane said the board also noted Tri Star’s five star state report card rating.

The board approved several personnel items, including resignations, appointments, administrator contracts, continuing contracts, and limited teaching contracts.

Board members also approved creation of a special cost center within the permanent improvement fund to help set aside money for future projects, including the eventual replacement of field turf.

The board renewed Holy Rosary cafeteria management for the 2026 through 2027 school year and approved an administrative supplemental contract for cafeteria supervisor Megan Webster tied to those duties. The board also approved a College Credit Plus memorandum of understanding with Rhodes State College.

Several donations were accepted during the meeting, including support for FFA, the GOAT Scholarship, FCA, Math League, the ag and wood shops, second grade classrooms, the long jump pit, and multiple student organizations funded through Rider Reuters concession stand proceeds.

The board also approved overnight trips for FFA officer training in Columbus and for girls basketball team camp at Cedarville.

Ruane said board members reviewed policy topics including attendance, grading scale, class rank, and artificial intelligence, with those items expected to return for a vote in May.

The board also heard reports on district literacy efforts connected to The Writing Revolution, along with updates from building principals, including the intermediate school’s annual walking story project at Casey Geiger.

Following executive session for employment, no action was taken and the meeting was adjourned.
