Parkway music students promote April 11 booster 5K fundraiser

Parkway music students promote April 11 booster 5K fundraiser

Students and staff at Parkway Local Schools are encouraging the community to support the music program by taking part in the Parkway Music Boosters 5K on Saturday, April 11.

During a recent interview, Parkway students Carol Fullenkamp, Issac Menchofer and Morgan joined Band Director Mrs. Drake to talk about the fundraiser and how music boosters have helped students in both band and choir.

Drake said the 5K is one of the music program’s biggest fundraisers of the year, with proceeds going toward the Parkway Music Boosters. She said that support helps provide resources and materials for the music program, along with opportunities for students to take part in events outside the classroom.

Students said the fundraiser is designed to be a fun community event, with prizes handed out at the end and opportunities for people to register either online or at the school. Registration information is available through the Music Boosters Facebook page, and flyers with QR codes are posted around Rockford.

Fullenkamp said the boosters have played a major role in her musical experience, helping cover costs for events such as solo and ensemble competitions, Northwest Regional Orchestra and District 3 Honors Band. She said that support has allowed students to focus more on the experience and less on the financial burden.

Organizers hope the community will come out and support the event while helping strengthen music opportunities for Parkway students.

The Parkway Music Boosters 5K will be held the morning of Saturday, April 11.
