New Bremen Board Hears About Land Lab Project, Apprenticeship Growth, Leadership Changes

The New Bremen Board of Education received an update during its March meeting on a proposed project that would expand hands on learning opportunities for students at the FFA Land Lab.

Superintendent Jason Schrader said the board heard about a proposed collaboration between the Ag Boosters and the New Bremen New Knoxville Rotary Club for a tile project at the Land Lab. Once installed, the tile would allow students to conduct research involving drainage, water management, and nutrient migration. The project is expected to be carried out this fall.

Schrader also said 5 seniors shared their experiences with the Cardinal Apprenticeship Program, which allows students to earn high school credit while gaining job experience in their chosen fields through local businesses. He said the program has now been in place for 3 years and continues to grow.

Under the superintendent’s consent agenda, the board approved several personnel items. Among them, 2nd grade teacher Mrs. Diana Kramer was officially approved as the new K through 6 principal beginning August 1, 2026. She will replace Diane Kramer, who is retiring after 16 years with the district.

The board also approved Aiden Vent as the new industrial technology teacher for the next school year.

In other action, the board approved Taylor Heckman as district treasurer beginning January 1, 2027. Heckman will replace Jill Ahlers, who is retiring after more than 25 years with the district.

The board also recognized New Bremen Elementary for being named a 2025 National Blue Ribbon School. Schrader called it an outstanding honor that reflects the hard work of students and staff.
