The Celina City Council is moving ahead with new regulations that would allow beekeeping within city limits, while also approving a lease for an upcoming community event.

Council members discussed a proposed ordinance that would permit residents to keep bees under strict guidelines. The rules would limit hive numbers, require proper placement and water sources, and include inspections to ensure safety. Officials say the goal is to balance community interest in beekeeping with concerns about safety and nuisance issues.

During discussion, council members emphasized the ordinance is highly regulated and based on research from other Ohio communities with similar laws. An amendment was also added requiring landlords to sign off on permits for rental properties.

The beekeeping ordinance passed to a second reading, allowing for further discussion before a final vote.

Meanwhile, council unanimously approved a lease agreement allowing “C-Town Wings on Wheels” to use part of Eastview Park for a free public event tied to a Wright State Lake Campus baseball game. The agreement clears the way for the April 26th event.

In other business, council approved another park lease agreement and heard updates on the city’s spring cleanup schedule, including changes to trash collection and storm debris pickup.
