Parkway to Remain in MAC as Board Thanks Community for Input

Parkway to Remain in MAC as Board Thanks Community for Input

Parkway Local Schools will remain a member of the Midwest Athletic Conference after the Parkway Board of Education decided not to move forward with an invitation from the Northwest Conference.

In a statement shared after the decision, the board thanked community members, parents, coaches, alumni and student athletes who offered feedback throughout the process. The board said the level of engagement and care shown for Parkway athletics and its student athletes was both meaningful and appreciated.

Superintendent Laura Young said the board wanted the decision to be shaped by community input and transparency.

“I just posted the board statement about staying in the MAC and they just really wanted to thank everyone for speaking at the town hall and all the input that was given in the community survey and we just really wanted this to be an informed decision that involved transparency as well so we’re just happy to get that decision made and we can move forward from here,” Young said.

The board said its goal throughout the process was to create transparency and encourage open dialogue. After what it described as thoughtful consideration and discussion, the board said it believes remaining in the MAC is in the best interest of Parkway Schools and its athletes.

The statement said the decision reflects what board members believe is the best path forward for student athletes and the district. The board also said it recognizes that many perspectives were shared and that community input remains an important part of responsible decision making.

While the announcement settles the conference affiliation question, the board said it does not end the broader conversation about the future of Parkway athletics. Instead, officials said it marks the beginning of the next phase of work.

Going forward, the board said its focus will shift to meaningful growth within Parkway athletic programs. That includes setting standards, reviewing and developing policies and programs, and taking actionable steps to support a growth mindset and expand opportunities for student athletes at every level and age.

The board also said it welcomes collaboration from those who are ready to work constructively, contribute positively and help build something stronger for Parkway athletes. In the closing portion of the statement, the board said it shares one clear goal for Parkway athletics: to provide the best possible experience for every student athlete who represents the school and community.
