Mercer Health Announces Next Community Health Education: Obesity and Its Impact on Your Sleep, Heart & Liver

Mercer Health will continue its Community Health 101 education series this spring with a free public session titled “Cause & Effect: Obesity & Its Impact on Your Sleep, Heart & Liver.” The event will take place Monday, April 20, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at Mercer County Community Hospital at 800 W. Main St. in Coldwater.

Led by providers from Mercer Health’s Center for Healthy Weight & Wellness, Maria Muhlenkamp, CNP, and Ashley Schoen, PA, the session will explore how excess weight affects key body systems and contributes to chronic health concerns. Attendees will learn about:

  • How obesity influences sleep quality, heart function, and liver health
  • The connection between excess weight and long-term co-morbidities
  • Evidence-based strategies for weight loss and prevention
  • An overview of modern treatment options, including GLP‑1 medications

“As rates of obesity continue to rise nationwide, our goal is to empower individuals with knowledge and practical tools to improve their health,” said Muhlenkamp. “This session is designed to help community members better understand the ‘why’ behind their symptoms and the options available to support meaningful change.”

This free event is open to the public, and no RSVP is required.
