The Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a jury duty scam that is currently targeting the area.

According to the sheriff’s office, scammers are calling residents and falsely claiming they missed jury duty and now face immediate arrest unless they provide personal information or make a payment.

Officials say the callers are using the sheriff’s office’s real address and phone numbers to make the calls appear legitimate.

The sheriff’s office stressed that it will never call someone to demand payment over the phone for missing jury duty or tell them to remain on the line while processing a payment.

Officials say all legitimate jury duty business is handled through the mail, not through high pressure phone calls.

Residents who receive a call like this are being told to hang up immediately and not provide any personal or financial information.
