Mercer County EMA Urges Residents to Practice During Statewide Tornado Drill Wednesday
Mercer County Emergency Management Agency Specialist Cassidy Freeman is encouraging local residents to take part in Ohio’s statewide tornado drill on Wednesday, March 18, at 9:50 a.m.
Freeman said the drill is a good opportunity for families, schools and businesses to review their severe weather safety plans and make sure everyone knows where to go in an emergency.
She said residents should expect to hear outdoor warning sirens during the drill and use that time to practice getting to their safe spot.
Freeman also encouraged people to make sure their designated shelter area is ready, to check emergency supplies, and to have a go bag prepared. She said families should also talk through the plan with children and think ahead about pets and what they would do during a real emergency.
Freeman said the goal is to keep practicing now so people are ready if severe weather strikes for real.
