Patrol’s Staff Lieutenant Roberts promoted to Captain in the Office of Field Operations

 

COLUMBUS – Staff Lieutenant Todd J. Roberts, Office of Planning, Research and Development, was promoted to the rank of captain on January 25 and was recognized today by Colonel Charles A. Jones, Patrol superintendent, during a ceremony at the Patrol’s Training Academy. Captain Roberts transferred from his previous assignment in the Office of Planning, Research and Development to command the Office Field Operations.  

Captain Roberts began his Patrol career in September 2003 as a member of the 141st Academy Class. He earned his commission in March of the following year and was assigned to the Wooster Post. As a trooper, he was also assigned to the Cleveland District Criminal Patrol Unit and the Special Response Team. He earned the Post Trooper of the Year Award in 2008. He was promoted to sergeant in 2014 and was assigned to the Ashland Post to serve as assistant post commander. As a sergeant, he also served at the Wooster and Cleveland posts, and Cleveland District Criminal Patrol. He earned the Criminal Patrol Award in 2020. He was promoted to lieutenant in 2021 to serve as post commander at the Wooster Post. In 2024, he was promoted to staff lieutenant and was assigned to the Office of Planning, Research and Development.

Captain Roberts received a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice administration from Columbia Southern University in 2025. He earned an Associate of Arts degree in criminal justice from Kent State University in 2002. He earned a certificate from the FBI National Academy in 2023.
