Van Wert man pleads not guilty in rape, sexual battery case

VAN WERT, Ohio A Van Wert man has pleaded not guilty after a secret indictment was filed in Van Wert County Common Pleas Court.

Court records show Colby Alan Black, 42, of Van Wert, entered not guilty pleas to rape, a first degree felony, and sexual battery, a third degree felony.

The indictment alleges the offenses happened on or about March 11, 2025, in Van Wert County.

Black was released on a surety bond with electronic house arrest. The court also ordered no contact with the victim.

A pre trial hearing is scheduled for March 4, 2026, at 8:00 a.m.
