Wapakoneta man dies after falling through ice at Ferguson Reservoir

LIMA — A Wapakoneta man died Tuesday evening after falling through the ice at Ferguson Reservoir on Reservoir Road in Lima.

According to the Lima Police Department, the Allen County Sheriff’s Office and the Bath Township Fire Department were dispatched to the reservoir at approximately 10:30 p.m. Lima Police and Lima Fire also responded shortly afterward.

Lt. Matt. Douglass said the victim was identified as Steven Tabler, 64, of Wapakoneta. Investigators said Tabler was ice fishing when he slipped and fell through the ice, becoming trapped in the water.

When first responders arrived at the scene, a hole had been cut in the ice and fishing gear was located nearby. Tabler was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation.
