Mercer County Grand Jury Indicts Celina Man on 2 Felony Assault Counts
CELINA, Ohio — A Mercer County grand jury has indicted a Celina man on 2 counts of felony assault stemming from an incident at the Mercer County Detention Center.
Court records show Steven Snider was indicted on January 15, 2026, on 2 counts of assault, both 5th-degree felonies, under Ohio Revised Code 2903.13(A) and 2903.13(C)(4)(a).
The indictment alleges that on or about January 2, 2026, Snider knowingly caused or attempted to cause physical harm to 2 separate victims while he was under custody at the detention center. Prosecutors allege the offenses occurred on the grounds of a local correctional facility and that the victims were employees or otherwise lawfully present at the facility.
Under Ohio law, assault charges can be elevated to felonies when the alleged victim is a correctional employee or other protected individual and the accused is in custody at the time of the offense.
The grand jury returned a true bill following sworn testimony presented at the request of the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office. The case is filed in Mercer County Common Pleas Court.
