The Coldwater Kiwanis Club has barked up a new fundraising tree with the launch of its inaugural "Coolest Dog Contest." This online competition is open to canine companions from anywhere in the world, with all proceeds benefiting the club's numerous community service projects.
"It's not a local contest. Dogs can be entered to the Coolest Dog Contest from anywhere in the world, literally, because everything's being done online," explained Barb Elking of the Coldwater Kiwanis.
The contest, which officially opened for entries on January 5th, has already seen a strong response. According to Kiwanis member Linda Steinbrenner, there were already 15 entries within the first 48 hours, including some from out of state.
How It Works:
Entry: Dog owners can enter their furry friends for a fee of $5. Participants are encouraged to submit a photo that captures their dog's unique personality—whether it's a simple snapshot, a costumed pose, or an action shot. The contest is not about finding the "cutest" dog, but rather the "coolest," so creativity is encouraged.
Voting: Public voting begins on January 17th and runs through February 17th. Each vote costs $1, and there is no limit to the number of times a person can vote.
Prizes: The dog with the most votes will be crowned the "Coolest Dog" and receive a fabulous prize package. Runner-up prizes will also be awarded to the next four top vote-getters.
Supporting the Community:
All funds raised from entry fees and voting will directly support the Coldwater Kiwanis Club's various initiatives aimed at serving the children of the community. Some of the club's key projects include:
Scholarships: The club sponsors an annual scholarship banquet and awards thousands of dollars in scholarships to graduating high school seniors.
Backpacks for Children Services: Kiwanis members assemble backpacks filled with personal hygiene items, towels, and comfort objects for children entering the foster care system.
Shoes for Hope: The club collects gently used and new shoes each May, which are then shipped to developing countries to provide footwear and support local businesses.
Operation Christmas Child: Members fill shoeboxes with gifts for children in need around the world.
Community Events: The club organizes and supports various community events, including the annual Bike Safety Rodeo, a free community pool party, and the "Christmas in the Park" celebration.
"We're hoping the monies raised will be greatly used in all the projects that we do with the Kiwanis," said Steinbrenner.
