Celina Man Charged With Felonious Assault Following Christmas Day Incident

CELINA — A Celina man is facing a felony charge following an alleged assault reported on Christmas night.

According to court records filed in Mercer County Common Pleas Court, Teddy A. Poppe, 47, of 440 Touvelle Street, Lot 21, has been charged with felonious assault, a second-degree felony, in connection with an incident reported on December 25, 2025.

The complaint states that Celina Police were dispatched at approximately 11:02 p.m. to Mercer Health in Coldwater for a report of an assaulted female. Hospital staff advised officers the victim had suffered serious injuries, including a possible broken or dislocated jaw.

An officer spoke with the victim at the hospital, where she reported that Poppe — identified as her boyfriend — assaulted her at their residence on Touvelle Street around 10:00 p.m. She told police he was intoxicated and allegedly slammed her head into the arm of a couch multiple times, punched her in the face and back of the head, tackled her to the ground, and strangled her while threatening to kill her.

According to the affidavit, the victim demonstrated how she was strangled and said she was unsure how long it lasted. She later contacted her mother, who transported her to the hospital.

The reporting officer noted visible injuries including redness on the victim’s neck, a jaw shifted to the left, inability to close her mouth, a cut on her forehead, a mark below her lip, blood inside her mouth, blood coming from her left ear, and swelling near her right temple.

The criminal complaint was sworn and filed on December 29, 2025, charging Poppe with felonious assault under Ohio Revised Code 2903.11(A)(1). The case is listed as State of Ohio vs. Teddy A. Poppe, Case No. 25-CRM-171 in Mercer County Common Pleas Court.

The case remains pending.
