Celina Man Sentenced to House Arrest, Probation in Child Sex Case

A 26-year-old Celina man was sentenced Wednesday in Mercer County Common Pleas Court to house arrest and probation for a child sex offense.

Shaun W.T. Olberding received 5 years of community control sanctions, including a minimum of 180 days and up to 1 year of house arrest with electronic monitoring, after pleading guilty to 1 count of sexual battery, a third-degree felony.

As part of the sentence, Olberding was ordered to register as a Tier 3 sex offender. That designation requires him to register with his local sheriff’s office every 90 days for life.

Olberding was originally charged with 2 counts of sexual battery, both third-degree felonies. The charges were amended as part of a negotiated plea agreement filed in October.

According to the indictment, between Jan. 27, 2024, and Feb. 4, 2024, Olberding engaged in sexual conduct with an unidentified minor over whom he was “in a position of temporary or occasional disciplinary control.”
