Van Wert County Sheriff’s Office Launches Drone Program with Community Support

The Van Wert County Sheriff’s Office has added new technology to its operations with the recent acquisition of drones, according to Sheriff Thomas M. Riggenbach.

Sheriff Riggenbach said the purchase of the drones was made possible through generous donations from the Cooper Family Foundation, Diana Cooper, and the Van Wert County Foundation’s Tim A. Rolsten and Patricia A. Rolsten Memorial Fund. He expressed appreciation for the community support that allowed the department to establish a drone program.

The drones are being used by trained pilots within the Sheriff’s Office to assist with a variety of duties. Officials say the technology can also enhance the safety of deputies and other first responders during a wide range of emergency and investigative calls.

Sheriff Riggenbach noted that 6 members of the Sheriff’s Office have completed Part 107A training to obtain their drone pilot licenses. The training was provided through Vantage Career Center earlier this year.

The sheriff says the new drone program is another step toward improving public safety and operational efficiency throughout Van Wert County.
