Representative King Introduces SAM Act
Legislation to Encourage Participation in Team Sports

(Columbus, Ohio) – State Representative Angie King (R-Celina) recently introduced the Student Athlete Mobility (SAM) Act, to give students the ability to participate in sports not offered at their home school.

“Participation in school athletics teaches students invaluable lessons in teamwork and discipline, while also opening doors to future scholarship and educational opportunities,” said King. “The SAM Act ensures that every student, regardless of their school’s size or resources, has the chance to develop these skills and reach their full potential both on and off the field.”

The legislation removes barriers, promotes collaboration between districts, and ensures all students can benefit from athletic participation. If passed, this bill would allow students to participate in team sports like baseball, basketball, football, hockey, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, volleyball, or any other sport that requires cooperative participation by multiple students at a neighboring school, if the sport they wish to play is not offered at their current school.

House Bill 625 awaits committee assignment.
