Driver killed after vehicle strikes abandoned SUV, catches fire on I-75 near Cridersville

CRIDERSVILLE — A driver died early Sunday after a southbound vehicle went off Interstate 75, struck an abandoned SUV and caught fire, according to the Wapakoneta post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash happened at 6:12 a.m. near milepost 118, the National Road exit in Auglaize County. A 2019 Kia Soul left the right side of the interstate and hit a 2007 Ford Edge that had been abandoned along the roadway. Both vehicles burned.

The Kia’s driver, the only person in the vehicle, suffered fatal injuries and had not been identified as of 6 p.m. Sunday.

The incident remains under investigation.

Assisting at the scene were the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office, Auglaize County Coroner, Uniopolis Fire Department, Cridersville EMS, Auglaize County CERT, Auglaize County EMA, Ohio Department of Transportation, Nelson’s Towing and Tops Towing.
