To hear Sheriff Timmerman:
Mercer County Sheriff Doug Timmerman Reminds Drivers to Stay Alert During Trick-or-Treat
With Halloween festivities getting underway across the area, Mercer County Sheriff Doug Timmerman is reminding residents to keep safety a top priority during upcoming trick-or-treat events.
Timmerman says with shorter daylight hours, visibility is limited—especially during evening trick-or-treat times. “Children are going to be very excited,” he said. “So please be cautious as they’re trying to cross the streets or going from house to house.”
He’s asking drivers to slow down, stay focused, and avoid using their phones behind the wheel. “Let’s make sure we put our phones down, pay attention, and not be texting and driving,” Timmerman said.
The sheriff also encourages parents to make their kids more visible by using reflective clothing or gear. “It probably wouldn’t be a bad idea if they had some type of reflective clothing with them,” he added.
Timmerman’s final message: “Let’s just slow down and make sure we watch out for the young ones as they’re crossing the street and going from house to house.”
Trick-or-treat events will take place throughout the county over the next few weekends.
