A Van Wert woman has changed her plea in connection with a fatal accident that happened earlier this year.
66-year-old Barbara Nickles appeared in Van Wert County Common Pleas Court Wednesday and pleaded no contest to a charge of vehicular homicide, a first-degree misdemeanor.
Judge Martin Burchfield found her guilty and scheduled sentencing for November 19th. Nickles faces up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine, along with possible probation or a license suspension.
The charge stems from a July 28th crash in the Ruler Foods parking lot in Van Wert. Police say Nickles’ SUV accelerated in reverse at a high rate of speed, striking pedestrian Omar Sites and several parked cars.
Sites later died from his injuries on August 11th. Investigators say there’s no evidence the crash was intentional.
