Museum of the Soldier
Portland In 47371
The Museum of the Soldier will be presenting a special program as part of the “Box of Chocolates” historical lecture series this Sunday August 17th at 2 PM at the Museum, 510 East Arch Street in Portland. Museum Board Member Matt Simmons will be presenting an over view and sharing artifacts from the US Military opposing forces training program. The U.S. Military uses an Opposing Forces (OPFOR) program to simulate potential adversaries during training exercises. OPFOR units represent a range of threats, including conventional, irregular, and hybrid forces, allowing soldiers to train against realistic and adaptable enemies. The OPFOR program helps develop soldiers' abilities to operate in diverse and challenging environments.
Matt will be using OPFOR artifacts from over 75 years of this training program plus his personal experiences as part of OPFOR while serving in the US Army in his presentation. The program is free and open to the public.
The Museum of the Soldier will also be open this weekend both Saturday and Sunday from noon until 5 PM with free admission. For more information call 260-766 4235
