Honda contributes nearly $45,000 to revitalize Wright State–Lake Campus Manufacturing Lab

The Western Ohio Education Foundation has received a $44,778.25 contribution from Honda to support improvements to the Manufacturing Lab at Wright State University–Lake Campus.

The funding will be used to modernize the facility and strengthen manufacturing education and workforce training opportunities available to students and area employers.

The Lake Campus Manufacturing Lab supports several levels of education, including the High School Pre-Apprentice Earn and Learn Program. The program introduces high school students to manufacturing and provides foundational skills that can prepare them for higher-paying jobs after graduation.

The lab also supports the university’s Manufacturing Technology and Mechanical Engineering programs, allowing students to pursue formal education through the bachelor’s degree level for advanced technical careers.

Area employers can also use the Advanced Manufacturing SkillsTrac Program to provide flexible training for current employees. Options include individual courses, multiple levels of instruction and formal apprenticeship programs.

Tammy Eilerman, director of the Workforce Development and Business Enterprise Center, said Honda’s contribution will allow the campus to repair essential equipment, including its mill, and install new welding booths.

Eilerman said the upgrades will help ensure students train with the same technology and equipment they are likely to encounter in the workplace, creating a stronger connection between the classroom and local manufacturing employers.

Honda supports education and career-readiness programs aimed at preparing young people for future careers and encouraging innovation.
