New Bremen Council promotes two police officers to sergeant

New Bremen Village Council has approved the promotion of two police officers to sergeant as the department prepares for an upcoming retirement.

Mayor Bob Parker said council promoted Patrolman Dennis and Patrolman Neubauer during its latest meeting. Parker said the department has not added a new sergeant in 17 years.

The promotions come as Sergeant Brad Pyle prepares to retire from the New Bremen Police Department effective August 1. Council approved a resolution accepting his resignation.

Council also gave second reading to a resolution authorizing the purchase of Kenwood radios for the police department.

Several residents attended the meeting to raise concerns about New Bremen’s growing feral cat population. Parker said council held an extensive discussion about the issue, including concerns that residents feeding unattended cats may be contributing to the population.

Village officials plan to review possible ordinances and other options before discussing the issue again at the next council meeting.

In other business, council completed the third reading of a pipeline easement ordinance with CenterPoint Energy for a new high-pressure plastic gas line.

Council also gave second reading to a resolution concerning the proposed elimination of the Auglaize County Solid Waste Management District’s generation fee.

The finance committee reported July expenses totaling $1,406,851, while receipts for June totaled approximately $1 million.

New Bremen Village Council regularly meets at 6:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Mondays of each month, making its next scheduled meeting Monday, August 10.
