Mercer, Auglaize Counties Post Some of Ohio’s Lowest Unemployment Rates

Mercer and Auglaize counties continued to rank among Ohio’s strongest job markets during June, according to new county unemployment figures from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

Mercer County recorded an unemployment rate of 2.7 percent, the second-lowest rate among Ohio’s 88 counties.

Neighboring Auglaize County was close behind at 2.9 percent, giving the county the state’s third-lowest unemployment rate for the month.

Putnam County also performed well, recording a June unemployment rate of 3.0 percent, placing it among the counties with the lowest jobless rates in Ohio.

Elsewhere in the region, Van Wert County’s unemployment rate increased from 2.5 percent in May to 3.2 percent in June. Despite the monthly increase, that remained well below Van Wert County’s 4.4 percent rate from June 2025.

The statewide county map shows much of west-central Ohio maintaining unemployment rates below 4 percent during June, with Mercer and Auglaize counties continuing to outperform most of the state.
