Two Celina residents face felony charges in Mercer County

Two Celina residents are facing felony charges following separate criminal complaints filed Thursday in Mercer County Common Pleas Court.

Tonya L. Borgerding, 36, has been charged with third degree felony tampering with evidence and fifth degree felony possession of drugs.

The complaint alleges Borgerding altered, destroyed, concealed or removed evidence on July 22 while knowing that an official investigation or court proceeding was underway or likely to begin.

She is also accused of possessing alprazolam, a Schedule IV controlled substance. Court documents note a previous drug related conviction in Randolph County, Indiana, in May 2025. The affidavit containing additional details about the allegations has been sealed by the court.

Travis J. Borgerding, 38, has been charged in a separate case with third degree felony extortion and fifth degree felony possession of drugs.

The extortion charge alleges Travis Borgerding threatened to commit an offense of violence in an effort to obtain something of value or persuade another person to commit an unlawful act on July 22.

He is also accused of possessing alprazolam. The complaint lists a previous drug related conviction in Jay County, Indiana, involving unlawful possession of a syringe in March 2022. The affidavit providing further details in his case has also been sealed.

Both complaints list the same West Anthony Street address in Celina. The available court records do not identify the relationship between the two defendants or provide further details about the events leading to the charges.

The charges are allegations. Both defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
