Celina man pleads guilty to felony abduction and weapons charges in Van Wert County

A 20-year-old Celina man has pleaded guilty in Van Wert County Common Pleas Court to two felony charges and one misdemeanor stemming from a March incident.

Tristan Nicholas Thompson pleaded guilty this week to a bill of information charging him with third-degree felony abduction, third-degree felony having weapons while under disability and first-degree misdemeanor assault.

Court documents allege Thompson restrained another person’s liberty by force or threat on March 2 under circumstances that created a risk of physical harm. The weapons charge alleges Thompson possessed or used a firearm despite a previous juvenile adjudication that prohibited him from doing so. The assault count alleges he caused or attempted to cause physical harm to the same person.

Thompson had originally been indicted on first-degree felony kidnapping with a three-year firearm specification, along with having weapons while under disability and assault.

Under the bill of information, the kidnapping charge was replaced by the lesser third-degree felony abduction charge, and the firearm specification was not included.

Thompson faces up to six years in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for September 2 in Van Wert County Common Pleas Court.
