Lima woman dies following single-vehicle crash on Van Wert’s east side

The Van Wert Police Department continues to investigate a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred early Sunday afternoon along Lincoln Highway on the east side of the city.

According to a police report released Tuesday morning, the crash occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m. near the intersection of Lincoln Highway and Stripe Road.

Police said a westbound car driven by 74-year-old Doris D. Jones of Lima traveled off the roadway and struck a tree.

Emergency responders found Jones unconscious and unresponsive when they arrived at the scene. Van Wert EMS personnel performed lifesaving measures before transporting her to OhioHealth Van Wert Hospital.

Jones was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

No additional information about what may have caused the vehicle to leave the roadway was included in the report. The crash remains under investigation by the Van Wert Police Department.
