Mercer County Sheriff’s Office adds patrols for Speed Enforcement Week

The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office is increasing traffic enforcement as part of the national Speed Enforcement Week campaign.

Additional deputies will be on patrol through Friday, July 24, with an emphasis on reported speeding problems and other dangerous driving behaviors throughout Mercer County.

Sheriff Doug Timmerman said excessive speed can contribute to serious crashes, injuries and deaths. He is reminding motorists to slow down and allow enough time to reach their destinations safely.

Drivers are also encouraged to watch for changing speed limits, especially near schools and construction zones, and to adjust their speed for rain, fog, heavy traffic and other road conditions.

The Sheriff’s Office says motorists can avoid rushing by leaving earlier and may use cruise control, when conditions allow, to help maintain a safe and consistent speed.
