Ohio Initial Unemployment Claims Decline

OHIO - Ohioans filed fewer initial unemployment claims during the week ending July 11, according to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

The state reported 5,743 initial claims from July 5 through July 11. That was 441 fewer than the previous week.

Approximately 1,050 of the initial claims were flagged for additional identity verification as part of the state’s fraud-prevention efforts.

Continued unemployment claims increased during the same period. Ohioans filed 44,402 continued claims, an increase of 2,270 from the previous week.

The total number of initial and continued claims filed during the week was 50,145.

Ohio’s unemployment rate stood at 3.7% in May, compared with the national rate of 4.3%.

Ohio and the nation each reported a labor-force participation rate of 61.8% in May.
