A squirrel was responsible for a recent power outage that knocked both of Minster’s electrical substations offline for approximately 30 minutes.

Mayor Bob Parker said the animal entered a switch connecting the lines between the Herman Street and North substations. The incident caused approximately $3,800 in damage to the switch.

Parker provided the update following Monday night’s Minster Village Council meeting.

Council also heard a second reading of an ordinance involving a pipeline easement with Vectren Energy Delivery.

Members recognized the upcoming retirement of Minster Police Sergeant Brad Pyle, effective August 1, and thanked him for his years of service to the village.

A first reading was also held on a resolution authorizing the purchase of two Kenwood radios for village police cruisers at a cost of $7,749.

Council entered executive session near the end of the meeting. No action was taken afterward.
